What a thoroughly craptastic day. Managed not to get to sleep until 3ish, was awake again for work before seven. The work morning didn't start too badly, until a software package i'm trying to evaluate demanded a .Net framework update as part of its installation- and promptly blue-screened and rebooted in the middle of that. Worse, it broke the framework in such a way that it also broke my SQL tools and Visual Studio, so i couldn't get to any of the bug tracking i needed to get to do.

Attempting to repair the framework returned more BSoDs and reboots, as did trying to uninstall it, SQL or VS. Restoring the system to an earlier point did nothing as well. Finally, by about 3:30, to add insult to injury, the management console threw one while i was trying to find any sort of diagnostics on what file(s) where causing the problem.

And for those of you who are familiar, no, it didn't work in safe-mode either, although i tried the repairs and uninstall/reinstalls from there as well. I ended up giving up after copying my documents to a networked drive when it threw another BSoD while in the Files and Settings Transfer wizard where i was trying to get as much off the beast as possible. At that point, i decided it wasn't stable enough to deal with any more and took it over to the IT guys who will reimage it overnight.

Oh, yes- and this was the day that accounts in the helpdesk tracking software for the department other than the Triage queue were deleted- and all the items which had been assigned to those folks got dropped into the Triage queue, which is solely my responsibility- so i went from having a handful of issues to try to get scheduled and addressed to having around two hundred which need to be taken out of that system and put into the bug tracking development uses (which should have been done by the people to whom they were assigned originally, but since the process of migrating all the information takes ten to fifteen minutes apiece, they didn't bother).

Colour me cranky. It wasn't as if i didn't have enough work already with no experienced resources to handle it, i still don't even have my rookie outsourcers and now have a full week's worth of cleaning up other people's messes before being caught up.

Oh, yes, one more thing. Indications are that the power supply on our desktop machine is dying as well.
