Today, [livejournal.com profile] darkmuffin got to attend his first baseball game. Courtesy of MasterCard via work, we has seats twenty-four rows from the action today at Safeco Field. Basically, if you extended the left-field-third base foul line on the other side of the plate, you'd end up right where we were sitting.

Alexander learned how to keep a scorecard. I think it's one of those handy things which makes going to a sporting event that much more interesting- and in a sport like baseball, where the ball is in play for a matter of minutes during the duration of the three hours or so of the event- any way that spectators can be involved within common sense boundaries is a good thing- other wise it's a whole lot of sitting.

I'm still not a fan. I won't turn down free tickets, but there's no way i'd pay to go to a game. Single-game tickets where we sat would have been $55 apiece ($38 each per game for season tickets). Parking in the stadium facility would have been $20 if it weren't for the parking pass which accompanied the tickets. Toss in a $3 programme and score card, and it'd have cost $133. That's not touching food or drink- adding a soda would have been another $4.50 and other prices were similarly outrageous.

$3 to hang out with a pretty cool kid on a nice day instead of sitting at work was well worth it. Even if the Mariners had a pretty bad game (with the exceptions of Ichiro and Raul Ibanez, who each had three hits), it was neat to get to spend the afternoon with Alexander. Oh- we left after seven innings, figuring we'd try to miss some traffic (with the score 7-1 at that point). I think that the time we'd spent sitting was enough- Alexander was getting a little antsy (as was I, probably). Of course, that was the signal for the Mariners to score en route to a 7-3 final, but it only took forty minutes of nasty traffic instead of likely taking that long just to get to the freeway if we'd waited until the end of the game.

Going to snap the skein of early-bed nights by heading to the Grind tonight with [livejournal.com profile] damashita tonight.

Apparently we're not going to the Grind tonight after all. Oh, well.
