Well, that wasn't as bad as i expected.
I skated in one brace- on my right knee, because it's by orders of magnitude the more fragile and damaged of the two- and full gear.
I'm reasonably happy with my stickhandling. It's not flashy, and there are no tricks, but i'm mostly comfortable with the puck on either forehand or backhand at moderate pace. Didn't try anything at much speed, just stayed relatively sedentary.
I have no shot to speak of, but never really did. My game was never about blowing the puck by anyone, but more collecting garbage and being generally able to pop wrist shots up top shelf. Given the nature of the environment, didn't do much passing, but was able to put all the ones i attempted right where i wanted them.
My skating needs work. I fell twice, both on left-over-right crossovers, just over-balancing and blowing out the weight transfer. This is no real surprise. Hard stops just aren't happening- i'm somewhat reticent to commit enough to the edges for any drastic stopping or cornering. Love the new skates, though. They feel really positive for whatever i'm doing on them.
I'm decidedly not in shape, but that's no surprise. The experiment will be to see if i can make enough progress that getting into shape to play in the fall seems to be an achievable goal.
