I am far too Canadian
Dec. 6th, 2005 08:30 pmWith the Canadian Electmas in full swing, CBC is running all sorts of information about the various party leaders who are likely to be in positions of influence- Layton, Duceppe, Martin and Harper (from left to right).
I identify as a USAdian NPDer, and have for a few years, even realizing that NDP economic policy is probably too extreme for Canada's well-being.
The NDP is the farthest left of the national parties, and is led by Jack Layton. Moving to the right along the continuum, next is the regional Parti QuebeƧois, which is fairly centrist, possibly centre-left. Next, the incumbent Liberal party, led by Paul Martin. Now, Canada's Liberals are only Liberal in comparison to Canada's Conservatives, who look shockingly Bush-ite for representatives of a nation who have incurable politeness as their national disease. The Liberals are centre-right, but still left of Stephen Harper's Tories, who look a lot like Republicans with two-tiered national healthcare.
So, the CBC has a little quizlet here with a dozen position statements reflecting the stands taken by the players. Of the twelve, my positions matched Layton twelve for twelve; Duceppe on nine; Martin seven and Harper only three.
Oh- and bonus points to anyone who can point out the source from which the subject line comes. I'd be surprised if anyone other than possibly
uniquecrash5 had a real clue.
