Two Places at Once
Aug. 6th, 2005 08:22 pmToday, for a few seconds, it was the City of Whitehorse and the City of Yellowknife.
Neat trick, eh, especially since one is in the Yukon Territories and the other in the Northwest Territories, and i didn't leave Seattle for either. For that matter, it would have been possible to walk from either to Nainimo or Saskatoon.
Part of the annual Seafair festivities include a display of naval vessels at Pier 91, at the foot of the Magnolia Bridge, and the ships are open for guided tours. We toured the USS Crommelin (FFG-37) and the HMCS Whitehorse (MM-705). The four of Her Majesty's Canadian Ships were berthed together, with walkways from the fore two to the aft pair. With Whitehorse and Yellowknife separated by a trio of fenders along their lengths, it was a simple matter to put one foot on each deck. Crommelin's tour was significantly more extensive than any of last year's had been— we even got to tour the bridge and CIC.
After the tour, it was time for nice cold Starbucks, then to drop
indigopowder and A. off at their place and head up to the party at D.'s house, which was quite nice, but not an ideal place for little boys. Speaking of which, they'll probably be asleep as soon as they make it to bed, which in turn will be right after they finish eating.
