Reflections on last night's party:

• It was really nice to see some people i haven't seen in a long time. Among these: thedivas, darkgoddess7, oracle2c, turtlegrrl13 and jakerain. Unfortunately, the crush of humanity limited it to little more than just seeing.


• Given the number of people in costume, i probably saw a number of others without realizing it.


• A hyper-caffeinated and more-than-slightly intoxicated greenwood is really amusing. I think i got to talk with her longer than anyone else.


• Although costumes with wings are really pretty damn spiffy, they're also impractical in areas where the volume of people makes for crowded quarters. One should also avoid dressing as, say, a blackjack table.


• Highlight of the evening: a cluster of four Jillians at once, including the authentic Jilli.


• Lowlight of the evening: krautboy and posse looking like something out of a Duran Duran video gone horribly wrong. OK, so it wasn't that bad, and amusing as hell.


• I hate crowds. This was like an evening at the Mercury squared. Near-claustrophobia ensued. This served as a reminder of why i'm often less than overtly social most of the time


• When feeling crowded, my general inclination is to find a corner and attempt to hide in it.


• Most people don't seem to be able to distinguish between Great Patriotic War (World War II to the non-Russians *wink*) Wehrmacht and late Cold War Soviet Army. As intoxication levels increase, this ability decreases in commensurate amounts. Fer chrissake, people, the red stars, often with gold hammer and sickle devices should be a clue. Major bonus points to the one individual who correctly identified both origin and rank.


• The worst part of playing designated driver is trying to round people up when it's time to go. "You can barely stand up. Stay right here while i go find ________." Return five minutes later, "Where the fuck did he go?"

Oh, yeah. And since i only had a few sips of Kahula and cream before switching to water, why did i wake up this morning with the headache i'd have expected if i'd imbibed in quantity?

Not to mention that 11 a.m. soccer practice came incredibly early after not getting in until almost 2 and then showering off the second-hand smoke.

At least practice was pretty decent- only nine of us made it, but a squad of Frenchmen showed up to scrimmage and we pretty much held our own everywhere but winning balls in the air.
