Oct. 16th, 2002 01:02 pmI went rummaging in the basement last night looking for things to read on the bus on my trips to and from work. Among the things i brought up were two volumes of folk-tales from the West Highlands, thinking that i'd find some material to use in there for the previously threatened story and song sessions. In addition to what i end up picking, i'm thinking about some other stories:
- Deirdre of the Sorrows, from the Irish;
- The Second Battle of Mag Tuireadh, also Irish in origin;
- Probably one of the accounts of the battles of the Irish hero Cu Chulainn, after Kinsella's Táin;
- The Selkie Who Deud Na' Forget, a cute short tale from Orkney.
Anyway, back to the book. These are much longer tales- probably at least ten to fifteen minutes worth of storytelling each as they stand- and would take a lot of committing to memory. In the book they're in Gaelic, with the English on the facing page, which is just too damn cool.

Oct. 16th, 2002 10:45 pmInteresting night at coffee tonight. Got to talk with some people i don't always get to, and a few i usually do. Wore the same outfit i wore to the wedding last Saturday with all its velvety goodness and the lace-up shirt goodness as well. Got a compliment completely out of nowhere from Grace McK., to which i wasn't completely sure how to respond- and although usually fairly quiet, it's rare i'm at a loss for words. Dressing up is good. Having other people comment on it isn't a regular enough occurance that i know what to do when it happens- i don't generally consider myself well dressed, and rarely add new items to the regular selection.
Anyway, i'm babbling semi-nonsensically now, so i suppose this is enough for one evening.
