ravencallscrowsTired. Bone tired. I've forgotten how much work little ones are— and how demanding they can be. Between general stress and nicholas keeping, well, baby hours, none of the household adults have gotten a lot of sleep lately. damashita extra little bits of rest whenever possible, since she's the one with the equipment to do the nursing part.
I've occasionally managed to sleep through some of his overnight feedings. Unfortunately, those seem to come on nights when a cat gets into the bedroom and decides it must be let out some time in the small hours- usually about four in the morning. Anyone want a cat? Preferably someone who lives within trebuchet range- i'll just lob one over around, say, 4:10.
Got to go to an absolute waste of time meeting made mandatory by the state department of employment security. I wish they'd offer tracks in those class things for the absolutely clueless and for the professionals who pretty much already have a pretty solid idea of where to look for work. Who'da thunk to look at online job banks like Monster.com for jobs- or to submit resumes by e-mail. Bleh! Spent much of the meeting waxing cynical and sarcastic with a new friend- Camilla- who's an editor and pretty cool person in her own right.
We're preparing to take a little leap of faith. Even though finances are tight, our ISP account (which we pay annually) is due, and the local cable company is offering a special on broadband internet access- not significantly more per month we pay for dialup presently. So we're going to give it a go- and do the wireless 802.11b LAN with the cable modem running into a router. That way, we should be able to have (if need be) the primary desktop, both laptops, and the old desktop (currently offline). When finances permit, i'd like to do a SuSE 8.2 installation on either that box or one assembled from the parts around the house, and should an OS X machine fall into our laps, well, that as well- although buying one is not even on the horizon presently.
We're also downgrading our landline to a bare minimum- just local calling. We've acquired a second mobile phone with nationwide calling- which will allow us to drop LocalDial and still be able to make non-local calls without incurring long distance charges within the continental U.S. Those of you who are on my friends list will see the new number in the post made immediately after this one. Costwise, the whole thing will work out as roughly a wash for the next six months, by which point finances should have changed for the positive.
