The Lightning took big steps toward respectability this season.
Capping them was the franchise's first playoff series win, after the team's first divisional crown. Assuming the Players' Association and ownership come to their senses and sign a new Collective Barganing Agreement, this may be a team to watch in the upcoming years.
The matchup of the Lightning against the New Jersey Devils looked lopsided on paper. After a 3-0 Devils win in Game 1, it looked moreso. The Lightning kept close to the Devils afterwards, though, three of the remaining four games being decided by a single goal, and New Jersey not getting the series clinching victory until about halfway through the third overtime.
The better team clearly won this series. Statistically, the Devils had the edge in most categories. But making it this far was clearly quite an accomplishment for Tampa Bay.
