Jan. 29th, 2002 06:35 pmIt's continuing to snow, and has gotten nice and pretty and white outside. Looks like work may be off tomorrow as well- forecasts are calling for several inches in Seattle (and if it's snowing downtown, it'll be worse elsewhere).
Still thinking about doing some sort of public religious observance for Beltaine. I've got some concerns to overcome, or perhaps just to address in pre-event information. It's going to have to be really clear that it's not a Wiccan or neo-Wiccan thing, and not really neo-pagan either. Yes, it's traditional to have some sort of a circle cast, but not with the hermetic directions and the earth, air, fire, water associations, which might make it unacceptable to the Llewellyn crowd and most of the neo-pagan community since it's so far outside their "comfort zone" and "the way the Old Religion did it," which is really amusing since most Wiccan beliefs don't date significantly before Aleister Crowley and the OTO, when there's at least some tenuous evidence backing a division into quarters as according to station in society dating to the earliest written accounts from the Celtic cultures- there are a pair of different ways of doing this chronicled in Irish writings dating to the early eighth century.
We'll see. Probably the first step would be to get something written up and posted to see what sort of interest there is in putting it together, and after that overcoming issues as they arrive if there's even any sense in proceeding after that.
